The 18-year-old singer passed his online rival, taking him to more than 33.3 million followers. It was big news when Justin Bieber surpassed 16 million followers on Twitter on New Year’s Eve. However, what many people may not know is that Justin is the only male to rank among the top five Twitter accounts based on number of followers. According to Twitaholic, Justin now comes in at #2, behind the “Queen” of Twitter, Lady Gaga (17.6 million followers). The others in the top five include Katy Perry (13.4 million), Kim Kardashian (12.3 million) and Shakira (12.2 million). In fact, the only other male to rank in the top 10 is Barack Obama, with 11.7 million followers. Of course, as usual, Selena is not far behind her man, also ranking in the top 10 with 9.4 million followers.
Justin Bieber was extremely visible last month as he promoted his holiday album, Mistletoe, which resulted in a huge surge of Twitter followers.
