Canadian pop favorite Justin Bieber and British/ Irish pop band One Direction continue their social chart domination as they top the Social 50 chart for the third week.
Bieber have stayed in the number one spot for four weeks, fending off the former ‘The X Factor’ (British version) finalists who stayed at number two for the third week according to Billboard.
The Social 50 chart is a weekly music chart posted by Billboard to monitor the popularity of active musical artists on social networking sites that includes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, Instagram, SoundCloud, Wikipedia and Vevo. The data is compiled by online music analytic Next Big Sound by merging social media data from weekly additions of artists’ followers and fans, including video/song plays, website views, comments, reactions and posts.
Since the chart’s launch in December 2010, the Canadian singer holds the record for most weeks at the top with 53. Bieber has also successfully shielded off the London-based boy band’s record-breaking attempt to have the most views in 24 hours on VEVO.
One Direction tried to break the record by asking their fans and followers to watch their music video “Kiss You”. One of their member, Niall Horan posted on Twitter, “It was soo much fun to make, the best one yet! Let’s see can we beat the 24 hour record for most views.”
The band however fell short from the record held by the Canadian star, where they only had 10.4 million views, failing to surpass Bieber’s record of 10.6 million views for his video “Beauty and a Beat” on Oct. 23, 2012 according to a post in Myx Philippines.
Britney Spears climbed to number 3 (from 5), with Taylor Swift staying at the number 4 spot. R&B singer Rihanna slips to number 5 (from 3), with Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry and “Gangnam Style” Korean sensation PSY rounding off the Social chart’s top 10.
